Meet Robin Wilson, founder of Vesey Lane Goods, whose business blends artistry, education, and legacy to build community and honor the strength of Black lineage.
A Legacy of Creativity and Care

From the stories of her grandmother’s handcrafted hats to her own handmade greeting cards, Robin Wilson’s journey powerfully reflects how legacy, artistry, and community service can build a foundation for liberation. As the founder of Vesey Lane Goods, Robin has created more than a business, she has created an anchor for community empowerment and connection rooted in the values of her ancestors.

Raised in Inkster, Michigan, Robin grew up in a multigenerational, loving family where creativity was woven into daily life. Her grandmother, a milliner, passed down the tradition of working with one’s hands. “I watched her do fittings, work with hat blocks, and sell her hats at market days,” Robin recalls. This was one of her earliest foundations in being what she calls an “artistpreneur.”

A Business Rooted in Care

That legacy lives on through Vesey Lane Goods. Originally launched with handmade greeting cards, the shop has since expanded into a vibrant space for art, literature, and community gatherings. Robin’s literary works, including her bilingual children’s book Jazz-a-bet, celebrate Black culture and jazz history while nurturing literacy. Her storefront now serves as a community hub for workshops, author talks, and neighborhood connections in Detroit’s East Village.

Honoring Juneteenth, Empowering the Future

As someone’s future ancestor, Robin hopes to be remembered as “someone who not only accomplished a lot individually but also created opportunities for people in my community.” Her words echo with wisdom and urgency because every action we take becomes part of the story we leave behind. One day, we will all be someone’s ancestor.

This Juneteenth, ProsperUs honors the power of Black entrepreneurship not as survival, but as self-determination. Robin Wilson is leading with care, clarity, and courage, reminding us all to find strength in the legacy we carry and to become anchors of peace and inspiration in the lives of others.
