One must-try dish from Khalipha’s Mobile Kitchen is the renowned soul bowl, which you can customize with your choice of succulent barbecue chicken, lamb shank (a crowd favorite), or beef rib, served with two to three sides. They have also recently included vegan options.
Khalipha’s inspiration to bring Khalipha’s Mobile Kitchen to fruition came from her selfless desire to have wholesome meals that would be accessible and convenient for her community. Khalipha’s brand started as a catering business, which she operated out of her home. As word of her amazing dishes circulated, she saw rapid growth among her clientele. The sudden surge overwhelmed her to the extent she had to take a brief hiatus to reorganize and also plan how she would expand her business. She needed space to prepare meals in advance and to reach interested customers in other locations. Then, the lightbulb moment struck! Khalipha decided to invest in a food truck.
When Khalipha considered buying a food truck, she wasn’t sure where to begin. She took the initiative to do some research and learn more about the process of finding and purchasing one. It wasn’t easy – the costs Khalipha encountered were initially daunting. But she didn’t let herself stay down for long. Khalipha’s determination, her son’s reliance on her, and her educational goals kept her pushing forward with her food truck dream.
After an extensive search, she found the perfect food truck. Thanks to generous contributions from fundraising events and a supportive community’s crowdfunding efforts, she was able to invest in the future of Khalipha’s Mobile Kitchen. This support enabled her to purchase a second food truck.
Khalipha’s path to ProsperUs Detroit was paved by a chance conversation with a friend who mentioned the organization, and our Entrepreneur Training Program, and all that it entails, which encouraged her to apply for our class. From there, she realized ProsperUs was the resource she never knew she needed, teaching her so many tools she could utilize in expanding her business.
In addition, she learned about how to put together a business plan and is still learning more from ProsperUs Detroit today, including from our most recent food prep workshop series.
Khalipha envisions a future for Khalipha’s Mobile Kitchen that’s bursting with food trucks galore! But it’s not just about dishing out delicious eats; Khalipha wants to make a difference in the lives of the youth.
